Matagorda County Precinct 2 Commissioner George Deshotels has secured a grant from the Texas General Land Office, in order to erect a 29'x29' six-toilet, two-urinal public restroom facility on raised piers at the northeast quadrant of the Canal Road/CR230 park.
Despite protests from property owners and Matagorda county taxpayers, Mr. Deshotels has been reluctant and unwilling to consider alternatives to this project.
According to the Texas General Land Office, the scope and location of the project can be changed by requesting an amendment to the Grant #10-135-000-4011, awarded under the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act.
This petition is requesting that our public official, Commissioner George Deshotels, respect the will of the people and the role of his office by responsibly spending the grant monies on an upgraded/new public restroom facility at the west mooring site boat launch park rather than constructing a new facility at the Canal Road/CR230 Park.
This change would provide an elevated restroom facility to meet FEMA elevation requirements, and would better serve the needs of a greater number of beach visitors and users of the pavilions, boat launch, and the proposed new fishing pier to be built. We are seeking an amendment to the grant to relocate the restroom facility according to the aforementioned discussion.
