We the undersigned petition the council to reduce the speed limit of 60 mph to 40 mph along the entire length of Brereton Heath Lane in the village of Brereton Heath.

Following a recent speed reduction on the A54 to 40mph at Somerford we see traffic able to turn onto a residential lane and increase their speed to 60mph. Long have residents put up with speeding vehicles the entire length of the lane either cutting through the village or racing towards the Nature Reserve of Brereton Mere.

There are no speed limit signs apart from a National Speed Limit sign at the junction of the A54/Brereton Heath Lane, the lane in parts is long and straight encouraging drivers to increase speed. The lane has no pavements, limited to no street lighting and is lined with residential houses. As the lane progresses it reduces in width with visitors leaving parked cars on verges at and prior to Brereton Mere which is very busy every morning, evening and particularly weekends. The lane is used daily by many walkers, cyclists, horseriders from the local International Riding & Event Location of Somerford Park Farm, and importantly children walking to and from school buses on A54, it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs, lots of near misses reported by residents.

Updates

June 8, 2018

The council is still ignoring our dangerous road conditions while cars keep tearing down the lane at sixty miles per hour. Drivers are using this residential street as a racetrack and the indifference from local officials is putting lives at risk every single day.

June 8, 2018

The council can no longer pretend this is just a few angry neighbors complaining about the noise. We have built undeniable momentum and they are going to have to look us in the eye about the danger they are ignoring.

It is essential for the safety of all residents, children, dog walkers and horse riders to impose a speed limit of max 40mph, but preferably 30mph to both Brereton Heath Lane and Moss Lane. The traffic on these roads has greatly increased and will only get busier, speeds must be restricted before any serious incidents occur.

Speed limit is essential, as:- No pavements Children walking to school in danger Far too much speeding by traffic using the lane as a 'Rat Run'

A reduction in speed limit on this narrow lane, much used by pedestrians and horse riders, is long overdue. Common sense at last prevailed on the A54 limit past the Brereton Heath Lane junction. Let's hope that extends to the Lane itself.

as a daily walker i am buffetted by hi-speed vehicles who do not slow down especially milk tankers in the middle of the lane & the back wash pushes you out & then sucks you in there is a risk of a serious accident. all country lanes should be restricted to a 40 maximum

As a local resident living on this lane I support this campaign 100% - cars travelling at excessive speed are now a frequent occurrence and have posed a significant risk to walkers, dogs, and horse riders with their horses for quite some time, increasingly so since new housing has been built in and around Congleton.

Brereton Heath Lane is residential for more than half of it's 1 mile length. It is used by walkers, cyclists, joggers, children, horse riders, wheelchair users, dog walkers, push chairs et al. All of whom have to use the road because there is no pavement, it is very dangerous and a complete anathema that the speed limit is currently 60mph, it should be reduced to 30mph

This road is really dangerous. The speed of the traffic is ridiculous.

Speeding of cars driving down lane is often crazy. I have young children who are at risk when out enjoying the rural area they live in. Riding bikes or walking
