Southern Chiefs' Organization (SCO) reject the proposed First Nations Education bill, stand with us and sign the petition!
In 2012, SCO entered into a unified rejection agreement with MKO and AMC and passed a resolution that the Chiefs in attendance at the assembly reject the Government of Canada's proposed First Nations Education Act, any proposed changes to the Indian Act and all other current legislative initiatives. We as First Nations peoples have the right to determine for ourselves through our own First Nations laws' on how to deliver comprehensive and holistic education that honors the strengths and culture of our people. AMC, MKO and SCO in conjunction with the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Center and the Education Directors in Manitoba take responsibility to develop a framework on "First Nations Law on Education" to encourage each First Nation and or Treaty area to pass their own Education Law that is based on Inherent Treaty Rights and on the Language and Customary Laws.
