Oxford City Council: Install lights along the path at the top of South Park

I would welcome some lighting to the entrance areas of the park, but would caution a full typical city council installation of street lighting along the whole path, which would plunge the rest of the park into complete darkness thus not being aware of who is outside the beam of the light and ruining the ambiance of the top of the park. The entrance to Cheney Lane is particularly densely dark and would benefit from some soft lighting to navigate the path. The Warneford Lane end isn't so bad, as the borrowed light from the street shows the path, but a little soft lighting here wouldn't hurt. The centre of the park should not be lit and anyone who doesn't feel safe walking through has the option of walking around the park which adds about 3 minutes to their journey, so would rather see money spent on other projects than on people who feel at risk but is not risky enough to add 3 minutes on their journey.

I think that this petition is a valuable means to capture everyone's opinion on the idea of lighting. I think anyone who opposes the idea should place a COMMENT ONLY onto the site to enable a wide audience to understand the nature of their concerns as well. This would not constitute a signature.

Important to raise security after dark as much as possible along this much used pathway.

As there are no lights people are vulnerable, especially women.

a group of us walk to our singing group this way and the darkness is off putting. When it is too dark, we drive which is no nearly as friendly, healthy or environmental.

Safety of students and park-users should be a paramount consideration that cannot be avoided for the sake of budget-cuts. The City Council should be reminded of their duty of care.

Definitely needed. You can't even see the path when you walk through at night, you have to use the light on your phone to see where you're walking. It's ridiculous.

I am frequently using this path late at night to walk home from university. These lights are much needed to for people's safety and to aid their vision

Necessary if we are to strive for a safer Oxford. Not only for the public, but for the thousands of students who use this path when travelling to and from the library, cheney student village and the brookes centre of sport!
