South Carolina Election Reform
A Petition for Redress of Grievances under both the U.S. and South Carolina Constitutions, for transparency, accountability, and public trust in elections.
Title:
Petition for Transparency, Accountability, and Restoration of Public Trust in South Carolina’s Election Oversight
Purpose:
We, the undersigned citizens of South Carolina, respectfully submit this petition to call for full transparency, lawful accountability, and legislative reform of the structure and operation of South Carolina’s election oversight system.
Our intent is not partisan – it is grounded in the shared belief that free and fair elections require public confidence, lawful administration, and direct accountability to the people.
Background:
South Carolina’s State Election Commission (SEC) has changed significantly in recent years. Oversight that was once distributed among publicly accountable offices has become increasingly centralized, with limited public visibility into decision-making, vendor relationships, and data management. The SEC has spent over $89 million on electronic voting machines ($50,888,360), Poll books ($6.5 million), and Ballot scanners ($32 million) since 2019.
Citizens have a right to clear, auditable, and independently verifiable elections. Two lawsuits were filed since the 2020 election, submitting evidence of election fraud. FOIA request were submitted for information regarding the CVR’s, however, there has been no accountability from either the South Carolina Judicial system or the South Carolina Legislatures. The State Constitution and South Carolina Code both affirm that government officials serve by the consent of the governed, and that transparency is essential to that consent.
We therefore respectfully request that the General Assembly and relevant executive offices:
- Return oversight authority to the constitutional accountable office of the Secretary of State, ensuring that no single commission or appointee holds unchecked control over electoral processes.
- Codify protections for whistleblowers and citizen observers who report irregularities in good faith.
- Remove all electronic voting machines, poll books, and ballot scanners.
- Incorporate ONE day voting, Hand counted paper ballots. No mail in ballots (with few exceptions).
An honest and verifiable election process protects all citizens, regardless of party or position.
We seek not confrontation but Reform – the renewal of public trust through transparency.
