The Board of Education reversed the proposal to close magnet schools and verified that full-day kindergarten will remain fully funded. We are now monitoring the budget audit to ensure these specific line items are protected in the final fiscal report.

Save Our Schools! The Montclair Board of Education is currently deciding cuts to the school budget, including these that go to the basic building blocks of Montclair Education and its reputation for educational excellence:

1)closing 2 magnets, dropping the number of schools from 11 to 9,

2)cutting out full-time kindergarten and offering only a half-day program at just two locations, and

3) increasing classroom size over the current goal of no more than 25 students.

Tell the Board that these are the wrong cuts!!!!  Sign and tell the Board we want to:

1)Preserve our unique, famous and highly acclaimed Magnet school system! Don't close or sell/rent off our schools!

 2)Keep our Full Day Kindergarten!

 3)Keep our class sizes manageable!

Cuts to these building blocks will effect schools and children districtwide as schools and staff are reshuffled, hurt our town's reputation for educational excellence, and impact property values! Sign and tell the Board to save the building blocks,

Save Our Schools!!

We are approaching the one thousand signature mark which triggers a mandatory review of our proposal by the Board of Education planning committee. Please circulate the petition link now to ensure this threshold is met before the upcoming budget hearing.

The current level of participation has forced the Board of Education to add our budget concerns to the agenda for their next public session. I am drafting a formal response to these proposed cuts for submission to the district office. Further updates on this meeting will follow once the schedule is finalized.

Half day kindergarten is a joke and makes it impossible for working parents. Think about the families for once.

Fix the budget without destroying the quality of education. This is so shortsighted.

25 kids in a room is already pushing it. Increasing that is a recipe for disaster for the teachers and the kids. BACK OFF.

UNACCEPTABLE. The board needs to find money elsewhere instead of taking it out on our children.

Keep the magnets open. That is the whole point of living in Montclair. Dont ruin the reputation of our town because of bad math.

My kids went through this system and it worked for them. Stop messing with our schools. We moved here for a reason.
