We, the undersigned residents and voters on the Isle of Wight and close friends and family members of Island residents, object to the proposed withdrawal of services to the most vulnerable members of our community. We believe that the proposals to transform social care will not enhance client choice (as claimed), but have the opposite effect. Services will be reduced, their availability severely limited, and vulnerable people of all ages will suffer. We therefore call upon the Isle of Wight Council to reject the Cabinet’s Budget proposals at the Full Council Meeting on 24th February 2010 and, in stead, to consider the Alternative Budgets proposed by opposition councillors and others.
The feedback I have received from residents highlights the profound anxiety these proposed service cuts have caused across our community. I am currently meeting with local representatives to ensure your collective concerns are formally placed before the council. The weight of your signatures remains a vital component of this ongoing dialogue.

The council really needs to wake up and see how these cuts hurt people. My mum relies on these services and shes terrified about what happens next.

Ridiculous. They always go for the most vulnerable first. Shameful.

Why do they always ignore the people who live here? so many elderly neighbors are gonna be left with nothing if this goes through.
