There is too much pressure at home on parents without adding the need to help children through the very difficult to navigate new computer based schooling during this disaster. With grades? Forget it.

Given the fear, anxiety stemming from the pandemic and the quasi-sheltering in, newly assigned work in addition to the packets that were initially assigned, our students are under an immense amount of stress and pressure. It is too much to take, and it is too much to have to learn and adjust. There’s too much going on and it’s happening too fast and simultaneously. It just seems to me that pass/fail is logical reasonable and above all humane.

It is the only equitable thing to do. Between technology access issues, stress felt by students and teachers (over the disease, families with shrinking income, etc), the impact of distance learning on learning differences, some kids having parents at home to help, some having parents working essential jobs ... There is no way to adequately and fairly assess how any student is doing.

This is the right and equitable thing to do, South-Orange Maplewood School District.
Pass/fail is truly the only equitable option.
