YES! I support 30% local hiring with the Local Hiring Ordinance. We need development that benefits Somerville residents and gives them:

-Jobs: The ordinance sets aside 30% of permanent and construction jobs for Somerville residents

-Training: The ordinance sets up a “first source hiring system” to train and keep track of qualified workers

-An Opportunity: The ordinance gives 10% of jobs and apprenticeships to disadvantaged workers

I have been hearing from so many neighbors who have struggled to find stable work right here in our own city. This push for local hiring is about making sure our growth actually serves the people who have lived here for years.

Seeing this kind of movement confirms that our neighbors are ready for development that actually invests in them. My family has lived here for generations and seeing this level of support for local jobs makes me proud of our community.

Finally some common sense. We live here and our tax dollars should support our own neighbors instead of bringing in outside guys for every single project.

Rent is way too high and we are getting priced out. At least give us a fair shot at the jobs being built right on our own streets!

30% is a good start. Stop shipping jobs out of the city.
