Petition to Mary Beth Murphy Supervisor, Town of Somers and the Town Board Since the Town Board has one seat open due to the resignation of Mr. Harry Bolton, we, the undersigned, request that if an interim councilperson is to be selected to fill the seat then the following guidelines be followed to pick such a person. 1) That the person be selected on a non-partisan basis. 2) That the person should have experience in the town government, preferably as a councilperson here or elsewhere, or on one of Somers’ “advisory boards” (planning, zoning, parks, etc.). 3) And that the person will testify that he/she will complete Harry Bolton's term until November, 2012, but will not run for his seat in a special election to be held at that time. The Somers Town Board should have a full complement of knowledgeable representatives working on Town business who have been elected by the residents. This type of interim appointment would prevent an appointed councilperson from running for the next election with the advantage of incumbency.
