Solidarity with Peter Mayo

No intellectual (or anyone else) should be harmed by their ideas or opinions. Freedom of expression is one of the most fundamental Human Rights. Without it, Universities die in the long run.

Peter is known internationally for his work. I hope the University of Malta recognises the significance of his scholarship.

Peter is an exceptional scholar.

Talent shall not be discarded because of old age, it must be invested in for knowledge transfer and future generations.

I write as one of only a handful of professors in the UM that has been (associate ) professor in another University/Medical School to support Peter Mayo and a few others in his situation, By any international academic standard, despite his age and with respect to his learned profile, Peter clearly deserves to retain his academic position at the University of Malta. The same applies to a few others. Admittedly, the published commentary from the UM administration was very disappointing and grossly disrespectful of all senior academics at the UM.

Peter deserves better treatment

Your unparalleled contributions to critical pedagogy, Adult Education, and your extensive work on Gramsci have left a profound impact on many, including myself. Peter Mayo is an incredible educator and intellectual. He deserves dignity and respect from an institution which he helped to build. He ought be treasured and celebrated rather than slighted. Is mistreatment is a shock to the international community and a disgrace.

As a former student, Peter has been a great influence on my intellectual work and ethics. The university's decision is utterly incomprehensible.

As a former UNESCO Chair and past Chair of the United Kingdom National Commission for UNESCO, I know of Peter Mayo's outstanding work as UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education. This should be allowed to continue.

At least in Peter's case he was given a reason why he was denied the extension. In my case they denied me the extension and I was never given a reason why they denied me the extension.

Fair action towards Peter Mayo.

Professor Mayo is a necessity; to our intellectual fibre, and as a torch bearer on educational reform, left-wing ideals and good old workmanship.
