Student's need community endorsements. SOCRATES appears before the Visalia Unified School District on December 14, 2010 to demonstrate there is community support for the project. We need endorsements by educators, community members, firms with experience in education, etc. to prove that Visalia needs and wants educational alternatives.

1) What is SOCRATES all about?

By offering a different approach to instruction and attendance requirements, SOCRATES Charter School provides an educational choice to students who struggle in traditional classroom formats. As part of the Anytime, Anywhere, Learning Foundation, SOCRATES focuses on a hybrid instructional method, more like a college format. Students are required to attend class sessions 2 to 3 days per week, but complete the majority of their studies independently, online, in the school study lab, or at home. At SOCRATES, our goal is offering 21st Century Instruction to 21st Century Learners!

Instead of learning from books, students access much of the curriculum using a high quality multi-media format, via Discovery Education, FYI Online Learning, EdOptions, and some traditional course textbooks. All students receive a school notebook computer, programmed with interactive digital books, and links to their personalized learning portal.  Although SOCRATES is high-tech, we will not forget the importance of quality teachers, and relationship building.  Every student will have a CA credentialed teacher as their master teacher / advisor who will keep a low student to teacher ratio of 25:1. In addition, CA credentialed highly-qualified subject matter professionals, will teach required classes which students attend face-to-face.

Furthermore, students participate in project-based learning and multi-media design classes using Adobe's Digital Design Software Classes. Since the computers are easily located through the Computrace protection package, SOCRATES students can take the computers home for their convenience.  If you would like more information, about how our budget can offer all this in todays economic environment, contact us using the petition sponsor link.

2) How can you help struggling students succeed?

We appreciate any and all endorsements supporting SOCRATES Charter School! We will appear before the Visalia Unified School District on December 14, 2010. The purpose of this meeting is essentially to present the public support for the project. SOCRATES Charter School, a non-profit organization, will benefit tremendously from endorsements by educators, community members, and firms with experience in education. With your help, we can prove we have support for the program.

3) Your support, can make a difference!

Please be part of the solution; your endorsement means everything!  Our public education offering is an innovative alternative to the "one size fits all" approach.  This is an opportunity to provide educational alternatives to non-traditional learners in our community. If you are interested in helping, your involvement will help guide the growth of our new school in Visalia, CA. The development team at SOCRATES understands how busy you are with the obligations you already have. This contributes to our difficulty in finding interested and experienced educators and community members willing to assist with guiding a new school development. Fortunately, there several different avenues in which one could offer their experience, guidance, and wisdom:

Updates

November 22, 2010

The Visalia Unified School District continues to ignore our demand for real educational choice. They want to keep students trapped in a rigid system that clearly isn't working for everyone. We are building this pressure to show them their monopoly on how our kids learn ends right now.

Finally some real change. The current system is outdated and leaves way too many kids behind.

My son needs this. Traditional school just isnt working for him and he is losing interest fast. We really need other options in Visalia.

Schools need to adapt to how kids learn these days. Teachers are great but the system is broken.
