Cyberbullying is one of Americas biggest concerns today. Students are bullying one another through the use of social media, and both the parents and school administration are either slowing their pace to stop it or ignoring the fact entirely. Suicides from students who have been bullied have increased over the years, and this is because parents have no control over what their kids post on facebook. I propose that all social networking sites install a parental control clause in all media profiles between the ages of 12-17. Kids are allowed to use these websites, but parents must have direct access to their accounts to view what they put online and who they talk to. This also includes password change notifications and emails to parents that notifies them when either their son/daughter makes a post or someone else writes on their profile. Social Media Websites that should use this function include the following: 1. Facebook 2. Twitter 3. Instagram 4. Myspace 5. LinkedIn 6. Pinterest 7. Google + 8. Myspace 9. Youtube These are only a few, but the point remains clear. Kids between the ages of 12-17 are not all the same, and some do stay away from the pressures of bullying. However, Parents need to step up and with a new policy like this incorporated into social networking sites, parents will not only see whether or not their son/daughter is bullying someone, but also they will be able to identify who is bullying their child as well.
