We must abolish the current criminal justice system, including police and prisons, not join forces with them. We need to dismantle racist systems, not collaborate with them. Stop advocating for deescalation trainings. There is no evidence that these trainings change police behavior. Divest from the police and invest in communities. As a BSW to MSW to now LMSW, I'm not with this. I refuse to be a bandaid. I refuse to support anything, but defunding the police. As someone who has provided state-wide and city-wide police trainings and seen disgusting surveys they filled out, seen the inattention during those trainings, reported officers, intervened in public off and on the job, pleaded with them to partner and have open discussions with the community out of desperation - when none of that was even explicitly apart of my job and NONE of it worked. Decolonize social work and defund law enforcement.

NASW, let’s remember what our profession is about. I ask that you immediately rescind your support for the Executive Order. Social work should be at the forefront of the moment in against systemic racism and in abolishing systems like policing that are inherently racist.

Good afternoon
I am signing this petition to show that I am opposed to the statement the NASW has made about the executive order to “safely police” communities, knowing that low income communities and communities are color are deeply impacted by the systemic racism which is upheld by institutions such as the legal and law enforcement , oppression, and policing done by law enforcement. As a social worker, I am called to politically advocate for my clients and community. I am also called to advocate and stand against all forms of discrimination, oppression, and uplift the dignity and value of our communities of color in particular our brown and black folks.
I do not support the stance that the organization has taken and would like for efforts to really address these issues with throughout and evidence based policies that will benefit our communities, especially the most marginalized.

A statement advocating for more resources in underserved communities would align more with our ethics than supporting the funding of social workers in police departments. Please reconsider this endorsement.

I do not support Trump’s plan, or any plan that forges a bond between social workers and the police state. Our commitment to preventing and eliminating oppressions calls for us, as social workers, to be replacing police departments, not being placed in police departments, in order to promote public safety.

As a social worker, I stand in solidarity with the calls to defund the police and fund alternatives that are grounded in true community care and safety. I stand strongly against any collaboration between police and social workers and the NASW must also stand firmly in opposition to this.

Social workers should strive to be above the racist institution of policing. Our ethical responsibilities and knowledge of systemic racism and classism requires our profession to investing in building communities, not punishing them.
