As someone who is starting my MSW in the fall of 2020, I would like to see the NASW stand up for total reform & not contribute to the broken system.

We ask that you please NOT use social workers as bandaids for a system that needs to be dismantled. It is our ethical duty to dismantle oppression and oppressive systems. Don’t allow social workers to be used to clean up the mistakes of policing. We can do better!

I am a 2nd year MSW student. This is a moment for our profession to be at the forefront of systemic change. Please lead us in the direction of creating programs of community care, rather than tying us to becoming accessories to current practices of state (police) control.

NASW cannot uphold its stated values unless it calls for defunding the police and refusing to partner with police officers. Policing in the US is built on the slavery, abuse, and murder of brown and black bodies, and social workers have no place in that system.

Social workers must decolonize our own profession, not replace policing with covert policing.

My job is to rebuild supportive systems of care and dismantle racist systems - not to police the police!
