Time is now make way for Soca and its mother music Calypso which was first recorded in 1912 108 years ago.
And has endured and influenced many musical forms.Louis Satchmo Armstrong Nat King Cole Louis Farrakhan Maya Angelou Church Berry Rosemary Clooney Robert Mitchum and the Andrews Sisters sang Calypso.There was a Calypso Craze in the 1950's.The first Album to sell one million copies was a Calypso Album by Harry Belafonte.The famous Beatles sang Calypso with Lord Woodbine.Bob Marley and the Wailers were influenced by the music of Lord Brynner.You can hear the strong influence of Soca in many of today's musical forms from Dancehall to Pop to Reggaeton.
I say give Soca and Calypso its rightful place a category on ITunes!
