Hi guys, We are sending this petition to the Madison school district in hopes that they will read it and allow us a snow day tomorrow. Our reasoning is as follows:

1) Six or seven surrounding schools all have snow days, including: a. Chatham b. Ridge c. Hanover Park and Madison has had the most snow out of the towns nearby.

2) The melting snow will freeze over into ice causing hazardous road conditions. This creates a life threatening environment for both experienced drivers and relatively inexperienced student drivers alike. Earlier this year, during a small snow flurry, the frozen over roads led to at least two accounts of student driver accidents -- imagine how many more accidents could occur following this blizzard.

3) Many roads, such as those in Harding, are still not completely cleared and are unlikely to be cleared by tomorrow morning.

4) The school district has not used any of our three allotted snow days and the school year will not be interrupted significantly by this snow day.

5) Many students drive in from private roads that are inaccessible to plows and thus remain uncleared.

6) Teachers and administrators all live in different towns, so it is inconsiderate to not allow them to have a day off when their towns have snow days due to hazardous conditions.

7) Ridgedale Ave is still covered in snow. In addition, the Ridgedale parking spaces are blocked by snow, which means the students that normally park there will have to park in the main lot and there is not enough room in the main lot.

Please consider our concerns and call off school for Monday January 25th 2016.

Thank you,

The concerned students, and parents of the Madison school district

One hundred signatures arrived faster than I imagined. Seeing this many people agree that the roads are just too dangerous is a huge relief for my own peace of mind.

January 25, 2016

We just hit one thousand signatures and I am honestly stunned by how quickly this has moved. Looking at the roads tonight reminds me exactly why we started this in the first place because our safety is far more important than one day of class.

Some people may have to walk to school. There is a lot of snow and it is not safe for students. A student's safety should be the school's number one concern. Please allow them to have a snow day.

It's also unsafe when Icy since Madison does not bus most students. And some of these Do live on hazardous routes...because they are hazardous in the snow and ice (and traffic!)

In case u haven't heard about the 14 people that dies BC of this, and seen that Madison was on the news for the amount of snow it received, this snow storm was a big deals, and we should not subject students and teachers to these unsafe conditions

I as a parent of 2 children in this school do not feel comfortable letting my newly 17 year old driver and my 14 year old son drive to school on these roads. It is not safe or fair to either of them, or to any other students. Thank you

The roads in Harding are ridiculous and unsafe, today we spent three hours shoveling our driveway so it's kind of ridiculous that we don't have a snow day particularly for Harding students it's unsafe and I don't feel comfortable taking a half hour bus ride to get to school for only three real classes of 45 minutes each.

I live in Harding and most of our roads are complete ice and barely plowed. I live on a private road and it hasn't even been plowed yet. I think it's too dangerous to be making us drive to school in hazardous conditions

I do not attend these schools but I know it's very unsafe and believe that there should be transportation sent out or more safeties keeping watch for these students. Walking on icey roads is not safe, nor is walking on icey roads while other cars are driving. Safety should always come first for the students.
