Morally corrupt use of our money

Hypocrisy and greed must be the only explanation for refusing the charitable grant increase, but voting for the increase in the councillors' expense allowance, even though MHDC "cannot afford it" .

I am disappointed that the Councillors feel that they can award themselves this increase at a time when others are not even offered any means of a rise - where is the justification?

I should like to hear the justification for the increases

Is MHDC nearly bankrupt, or morally bankrupt? It has been suggested that the pot cannot afford to support good causes, yet the SELF - SELF - SELF cause is a 'good idea' and more worthy! Allowances are completely different to expenses, I have no objection to Councillors being reimbursed for the latter, but allowances are something that those footing the bill should either 'ALLOW' or 'DISALLOW'. Malvern Town Councillors get no income, allowances or repayment of expenses, I should know. Martin Lawrence, Malvern Town Council. By the way, I would simply love MHDC to bring me before their 'Standards' Board for allegedly bringing MHDC into disrepute by launching this petition; what I am trying to do in the name of democracy is to bring them into repute..

About 30 minutes before District Councilors voted in these 'allowance' increases (NOT EXPENSES- JUST ALLOWANCES), a District Councillor asked for restoration of the £1,000 per member, per year, previously available on a Ward-By-Ward basis, to enable small grants to be given to good causes; he was told that in the present climate (or words to that effect) this was not affordable.
