I moved from South Florida directly to Snellville 9+ years ago and one of the MAIN selling points was that there are NO apartments in Snellville and it is the COMMUNITY that has fought and pushed to always keep it that way. Any community that would ban together and work so hard to keep something nice like that sounded like a place I wanted to live…and I have loved it ever since! I grew up and lived in apartments all my life before finally owning a home here in Snellville, and while I can sit here and debate how great we were a tenants and "stop stereo-typing the types of people that live in apartments", I know better. The (majority-not all) types of people that live in apartments have no sense of ownership of anything, therefore are less likely to care about the effects of the neighborhood, the community or the schools. One of the perks of renting is that you don't ever have to fix or take car of anything, therefore, why wouldn't that lack of responsibility filter out into the surrounding community? We can be "offended" and it may not be PC, but stats are stats, and apartments are bad news. Sure packing 700 more people in the already congested area might drum up some business cause, yes, they will need to shop and eat somewhere, but the negative affects completely outweigh that small positive. Again, this is just my own opinion based on 25+ years of apartment living life, but I see what I see and I know what I know, and if Snellville residents are upset because we don't want apartments in our community…then they should go live in a community that offers that type of living situations.
