SNAP is the first line of defense against hunger and food insecurity for millions in the US. 84% of all benefits go to households with a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person. Every dollar in new SNAP benefits generates up to $1.79 in economic activity. H.R. 6083 would cut SNAP by $16.5 billion over ten years, and cause thousands of households to have their food benefits cut by $90/month (a huge cut, since the average allotment is $284/month). Accordingly I am asking each of you to sign on to Rep. Jim McGovern's Resolution to reject H.R. 6083 and take a strong, united stand to protect SNAP benefits.
