In person is important at the elementary level. The kids don’t have the stamina to sit at computers all day and if they wear masks they can be safe in school. Covid isn’t going away. It’s the new normal. Cant be distance forever. Best to wear a mask and at least go back to every other day in person to not stunt the children’s learning more than is necessary. Also I commend all the teachers. What a difficult time for them trying to figure out how to do all this over the internet. Bravo.

Other nearby public Elementary schools have been open since the beginning of January - there is absolutely no reason our elementary student should have to wait until the very end of February or early March!!

Distance learning is not a long term solution. Our kids need in person learning and socialization. They need to be back in school immediately! Other states are doing it without issue. We must find a way.

Our schools have been closed for almost a year. At this point the board members have to ask themselves “Is it safe to keep the schools closed any longer?” The answer is NO! Mounting research shows that schools are the safest place for our kids even with rising positive cases. Keeping them at home is far more dangerous with skyrocketing rates of abuse, neglect, anxiety, depression, suicide, etc. It’s time to open the schools now!

Our students are suffering and they are desperate to be back in school. Our students need a complete 6 class schedule in person. Distance learning with only 2 core classes in 6th grade is not working for my child or our family. We, like so many other families who love San Marcos, don't want to leave the district, to move our house or go to a private or charter school, but if the district won't meet the most basic learning needs of my children we will have to. We have no choice. Distance learning has proved to not be an option for our family. I love public school and I fully acknowledge that the most vulnerable students don't have this option! They need you to do the right thing by them. And by the right thing, I mean they need you to do something! That is your job as a school board member, to educate our children. Please, please do your job and help our children.

The medical evidence is mounting in favor of opening schools, regardless of what color tier we are in. We need heroes at the district level to take the stand against the ongoing barriers to education.
