As a teacher at SMUHSD I am 100% opposed to a quarter system and only feel comfortable with distance learning.

I don't think that this will accomplish goals of reducing covid spreading. I'd be more in favor of alternate days for alternate classes (3 classes per day, every other day), but this model will not really end up in meaningful limitations in student interaction/teacher interaction and reduce covid transmission. This is a dangerous experiment on our children.

I’m a senior at Hillsdale High School. I’m taking four APs and two music classes. The quarter system cannot provide a way for me to take those classes. If we’re only in three classes each quarter and APs have to be in the first and third quarter, there is no way for me to take all four. I don’t support the quarter system, and I strongly suggest the district considers the alternative 1-7 model.

I have a rising Junior at SMHS. The proposed change to quarter system midway through his 4 year high school career will be extremely disruptive to his overall academics, extra-curricular and AP exams prep timing. We strongly oppose this switch

Quarter system not ideal for students who need more time with their work. More compressed learning will hinder learning. And as much in-person learning as possible please.

The proposed Quarter system seems to be not beneficial to students learning and performance, very burdensome to teachers and too complex. We need a better option than this. Thanks.

A quarter system is too fast paced. I have a child who is starting college in the fall and we felt a quarter system is already very difficult for college age kids, let alone for high school age. Moving to a quarter systems seems like a drastic change. Introducing such drastic change probably is not in the best interest of the students. The students taking AP classes will be even more burdened trying to learn at an accelerated pace as is during a regular semester schedule. Please reconsider this quarter system proposal.

Adults may learn with the quarter system, but most teenagers would likely have a hard time learning, absorbing and retaining knowledge. I can imagine with math, language, science, social science, SPED and music would particularly have a difficult time with the quarter system. Keep the 7 period day so students can retain all their courses that they selected. Synchronous remote learning is the best way to schedule until health and safety conditions allow us to return to the campus all together. Fear limits learning and there is a lot of fear in the world regarding the rapid transmission of the damaging virus. Keep students, staff and faculty safe!

Kids are already dealing with enough emotional and in some cases financial stress. They are searching for a sense of normalcy. Please keep the current bell schedule for the fall and use this summer time and financial resources to support teachers.

With all the change that our children are dealing with at this time, they should be offered a better opportunity to learn and this new quarter system places undue pressure and added stress on an already STRESSED student base. We do not support.

I believe that synchronous distance learning format is the best option in this pandemic time.

This proposal will hurt our students!!
This will not make the education better it will make it worse!!!
*students are already under a lot of pressure and stress!
*Pace is rigorous! Could fall behind easily especially if you do not understand the lesson!!!
*will prevent active students to participate in sports, extracurricular activities inside or outside of school because of the challenging, fast- paced quarter system schedule.
*Overwhelming schedule!
*if you think students were challenged with virtual learning imagine how challenging it would be with a quarter system!!!
1. Need to learn whole new system of grading!
2. Fast pace
3. If don’t get concept right away less time to catch up resulting in a higher failure rate!
4. More difficult for teachers to block out more office tutorial time for students.
5. Retention of material
6. No consistency and flow
7. No benefit to be Different!!
Especially how uncertain the collages will view this!
