Please don't shut down this program. I think it's one of the best things about SMU and the shut down of it is very inhumane

Managed feral programs with a TNR program is the ONLY way to control these cats. Look at the results everywhere!

You must stop this inhumane trapping. Caring for the cats through a humane TNR program is the best way to handle your situation. Not to do so shows not only lack of foresight, but conduct unbefitting an institution of higher learning.

You should take care of the cats that need food and water to survive.

How could anyone with an ounce of humanity sign off on a program that would trap animals in 100+ degree heat and let them die of heat and dehydration? And what about the cats that were already being cared for and are now being denied food and water? What kind of a person thinks that's an acceptable way to solve the problem? A group was already in place to deal with this problem and whoever is in charge decided that starving and cooking cats was a better option to save a few bucks? It's repulsive to see this kind of decision made by people who represent a religious institution, which should hold itself to the highest standards of kindness and compassion.

you will be killing cats forever if you remove the managed colony! If there was a problem you should have worked with the caregivers!! I can't wait for this to hit the news you will be shamed into a corner!! Shame on you

Its a disgrace and absurd for them to stop the good deeds of people who are simply giving water and food to those helpless cats. They are using there own resources to feed the animals but that is somehow a problem with SMU...
We had something similar like this happen where we were feeding lots of cats at a trailer park and the manager of the trailer park just decided after months and months of us feeding and little by little adopting that cats to good homes to call the police and have essentially banned from the property which keeps us from helping the animals. It's such an embarrassment that people think it's right to just let them starve or just put them to sleep.
Hopefully we can get lots of signatures and save the cats at SMU and other places.
God Bless and have a good day

As an SMU alum, I'm very disappointed in this kind of disregard for on-campus organizations and programs that are well-managed and -supported. Stop outsourcing common sense and decency and connect with your community and you will understand how working together is the only way to behave on today's college campuses.

This situation is inexcusable. I agree wholeheartedly with the substance of Ms Knowles' petition and couldn't be more disappointed with the SMU administration for letting this happen. It is shameful to think they would make such a unilateral plan, without so much as examining what its effects might be.
