A similar problem is now going on at the Orange County Courthouse in Orlando, FL. The County's plan is to forbid anyone feeding and leaving water for the cats to either starve the colony to death or send them elsewhere, away from the only home most of these cats have ever known. If you can get past the cruelty of that strategy (I can't), you realize they haven't done their homework. Never heard of the vacuum effect.

PLEASE STOP THE INHUMANE NEGLECT OF THE REMAINING 45 FERAL CATS ON CAMPUS AND RESTORE THE SMU FERAL CAT PROGRAM THAT HAS BEEN SO SUCCESSFUL TO DATE. THESE 45 CATS CAN BE NEUTERED/SPAYED AND RETURNED TO THEIR HOMES AND TREATED PERIODICALLY FOR FLEAS IF NECESSARY. Please support these cats. It is not their fault they are homeless it is the fault of humans for not spaying and neutering their pets. They have a home here and are given a square meal each day and vet care if they are injured or sick.They are happy here. They are great mousers. Please let them live out their lives here. It is very hard on an adult feral cat to be re-homed, much harder than on a domestic cat. We have a feral colony at the Elks Lodge near my house and the Elks love their cats!
