A recent change to the ground surface at the Smoke Rise Beach has created a healthy dialogue regarding the best surface for beach goers enjoyment. Suggestions have been raised about a better ground surface and the overall communication process before a change like this is implemented.

By signing this online petition you are supporting a request that the Smoke Rise community immediately revisit the recent decision to significantly expand sand as the ground surface at the Smoke Rise Beach

Updates

May 30, 2016

Seeing this level of support confirms that our frustration with the beach changes is shared by many neighbors. It has been an exhausting road to get people to listen but your response gives me the energy to keep pushing for a better process.

I was extremely disappointed that the residents were not consulted about this decision. I had read in the budget that the plan was to repair/ replace the grass in that area. This entire area which was previously utilized by many residents who have didficulties walking on the sand can no longer be utilized by those residents. This should have been discussed and put to a vote prior to the change as many residents are disappointed in the new aesthetic as well as the lack of accessibility for handicap residents.

The grass area has served as a picnic area since my family moved here 40 years ago and has been a great asset to the beach. In addition to difficulties for strollers handicapped and elderly, food and garbage in this area will attract more bugs and animals. Please replace with sod.

Sadly, I witnessed a few of our elderly residents try to navigate their way across the picnic area to no avail, they sat on the wall discussing their disappointment and then they left. This decision has alienated the handicap, and families with strollers. This surface needs to be removed ASAP

Please bring back the grass by the picnic table area. Last night one of my relatives tripped over a rock that was covered with sand and as a result swisted and cut her ankle. This was a poorly planned and executed action.

Sand is not the best option. People with strollers, canes, walkers, etc can't even sit at a picnic table. Consider the same crushed rock that is by the grills. It's easy to keep clean and maneuver on.

Please remove the sand from the picnic area! I can't bring my baby stroller on it and last night there was food getting buried all over. It's awful. I'd be happy to chip in money if we can't afford to fix it without members helping to pay.

The area need to be brought back to grass for all of the above reasons. Sod would be a beautiful option. Who made this decision anyway? And why wasn't this brought to all of our attention before it was changed?
