We the Parents of Smithtown Central School District are demanding parent choice when it comes to mask wearing during the 2021-22 school year.
This petition is in favor of mask choice for school aged children grades K-12 in Smithtown Central School District (SCSD). We are calling on our school board and district administrators not to mandate masks for the 2021-22 school year. Parents should have the choice of having their child wear a mask in school.
Camps and other events have taken place all summer on SCSD property with masks being optional. Social media accounts controlled by SCSD have shown numerous times children attending these camps and events had the option of wearing a mask.
With teachers, staff and other adults all having had the opportunity to be fully vaccinated, the perceived risk of children spreading the virus to adults has been removed. Additionally, children have little to no chance of contracting COVID-19 and spreading it.
There is no public health justification for forcing children to wear masks in school. When balanced against the physical, mental and emotional harm that is now becoming evident, it is clear that masks do more harm than good including anxiety and depressive feelings. Further, it has been proven time and time again that masks cannot not stop the spread of a virus due to the size of a virus. A virus is so small that it can still pass through microscopic holes in a mask.
Enough is enough and the only answer to mask wearing during the 2021-22 school is

I see the counter ticking up toward 100 which is just wild because I honestly thought I was the only one feeling this way about the masks. We really need to push this over the edge right now so the school board cant just pretend they didnt see us. If you know even one other parent who is tired of the double standard at the summer camps please send this link over to them before the weekend starts.

Children should not have to wear mask. It is unhealthy and there has been no proof that mask prevent the virus. Children require facial expressions and interactions with each other as part of development. No to wearing masks
I believe our children have suffered enough over the last year and a half of covid. They have lost so much and deserve some normalcy. They should be free to learn. I’m tired of my son coming home with headaches from wearing his mask all day at school. Let the parents decide what’s best for their children not the politicians.
I would like the choice of whether or not my soon to be kindergartner where’s a mask or not. I’m vaccinated as well is her community to a large degree. Let’s continue how we did over the summer in Smithtown and give it a chance and a choice to be maskless at their desk at least.
You have a Health and Wellness policy in the district . I and committee introduced this It is for the students where masking them has many physical and mental not healthy for the children . I suggest you look over your policy before someone’s atty does . The numbers for Covid cases amongst the young do not warrant hurting them with masks .
We as parents are perfectly capable of deciding what is best and safe for our children. If another parent wants their child to wear a mask that is their choice but we are entitled to make our own choice!
