Re-evaulate Professor Spurlock\'s Dismissal
We, the undersigned, wish to protest the forced departure of Professor Spurlock. As members of the St. Mary\'s College of Maryland community, we are deeply disturbed by the removal of such a knowledgeable, caring, and engaging instructor. It has come to our attention that Dr. Spurlock was fired mid-contract without the benefit of a meeting with the Provost. Despite allegations of excessive class cancellations and failure to show up to classes without notice, no disciplinary action was taken previous to his abrupt dismissal. According to Dr. Spurlock, he was not aware of any complaints made against him. In the spirit of fairness, Professor Spurlock should be given an opportunity to defend himself against these accusations. Dr. Spurlock is a valuable addition to the faculty of our College. He is approachable, intelligent, and supportive of every student he has. His lectures are straight forward, and if he wants to offer his opinion on a historical event, he prefaces it to ensure that students do not take it as fact. One of the proudest traditions of St. Mary\'s is superior education, an aspect of our College that would be tarnished by the removal of Professor Spurlock. We are confident that the administration of St. Mary\'s will agree that Professor Spurlock deserves a chance to discuss these issues. It is our hope that Professor Spurlock will be allowed to return to the College and that all students may be able to learn from this wonderful educator.
