Slow Down Spring Mill

The township needs to protect our children on Spring Mill Road by providing stop signs.

Yes please for a safer neighborhood!

I have been calling and complaining for 15 years, things are getting worse! Something need to be done, NOW.

I have seen people ignore the stop sign on Springmill Road and have driven right through it without slowing down. My grandchildren live right where that stop sign is and I am afraid for their safety, especially when waiting for the school bus. Something needs to be done to get people to slow down on that road.

Hope, It is good to understand what we are up against and I'm glad to have you on our side. Speed cushions are a form of speed hump (not to be confused with speed bump. Speed humps only cause discomfort to speeders) that are designed for emergency routes. They place a gap in between the bumps or stagger them on opposing directions to allow long, wide axel, stiff suspension vehilces to bypass them. According to PennDOT these are an approved traffic calming method for emergency routes because they cause no reduction in emergency vehicle response time but have a significant impact on regular traffic speed. Stop signs have a moderate effect on both of these (5 -7 seconds for response times).

I strongly support this petition. I live on Spring Mill Road and have witnessed the speeding cars on a daily basis. Our grandchildren cannot go out to play because of them. Something must be done to ensure the safety of ourselves and our families. In addition to the speeding, large trucks are ignoring the weight limit and are using this road as a cut through street.

Rick, Thanks for your opinion. A neighborhood coming together and figuring out what will actually make a difference is key. I think that everyone on this petition shares one common concern and that is the outrageous speed at which cars, trucks and even semis travel down Spring Mill. After a lot of research with the township and PennDOT I can help address a few concerns you and others have. 1. The light at Germantown + Butler and Butler + Ridge is terrible. They prohibit traffic flow causing back-ups and making it more convenient to cut through residential streets (like Spring Mill). Since these roads are state and county owned that fight would need to be won in Harrisburg. Starting with Spring Mill which is a local street we can see some more immediate relief and cost will not be a factor. The state requires studies that take years and funding for major projects is hard to find if the concerns are mainly from local residents. 2. The Oaks will have an increase on Spring Mill traffic not only from shortest path convenience but also congestion of other roadways causing more people to cut through. Anybody heading to the Mall, Turnpike, Germantown or other northern destinations will use Spring Mill as it is the shortest route. Most GPS systems including Google Maps will route traffic from the Oaks down all of Spring Mill for these destinations. 3. You are correct about the effectiveness of stop signs. PennDOT does not condone their use as a speed device if intersections have less than a 60/40 opposing ratio. As a nearby resident to the Taylor road stop sign, I can vouch that traffic is significantly slower around the 3 way stop than it is at any other part of Spring Mill. With enforcement they are very effective as traffic behavior is all about driver perception. Since the road is locally owned the townships traffic engineers will have the final say so that the installed traffic calming is safe and effective.

I live on Hunter Road. People constantly speed past our street. Stop signs would absolutely help and would make it a safer place for the neighborhood kids.

I think one stop sign should be added on Spring Mill between Butler and Ridge to stop the speeding down this road. However, the intersection of Butler and Germantown is also a main cause of the traffic backup, as well as the people coming north on Butler who block the Spring Mill intersection and prevent people on Spring Mill from turning.

Rick Ingber Plymouth Meeting I believe that four new stop signs in less than a 1/4 mile of Spring Mill is overkill. The real problem is the intersection at Germantow2n and Fayette/Butler. If the throughput at that light were improved the traffic on Spring Mill would be reduced. I don't believe the stop signs will have much of an impact. Also, I don't believe the development at The Oaks will have any meaningful impact on traffic on Spring Mill.

I will gladly sign this petition. I have been a resident of Tracey Rd. for 22 years and stood with my children for years at the corner and have called the PD, complained countless times, went in-front of the board and have requested the speed sign which faces the wrong direction because there is nowhere to put it the more effective direction, that it won't get hit by a speeding car I was told and destroyed. (Facing the speeders coming from Ridge, not turning off of Butler). I do know from my many many years of complaints and phone converstations and requests for stop signs, speed bumps, lights etc that I was told Spring Mill is an emergency route and therefore cannot have any of those speed deterrents. The traffic police do tally up every month which street gets the most complaints and that's how they determine where the police will sit and the speed monitor goes. Spring Mill and Joshua/Ridge seems to flip flop. Went to the last meeting and brought this up and said there will be a casualty on this road one day from the speeders and the traffic. It's insane, They need to stop building houses too. Good luck :)

We live at 49 Hunter Road and are concerned about the speed that cars drive on spring mill road especially at spring mill and hunter roads where there is a bus stop and we've seen too many people not stop for the bus. Also the increased danger when new developments are complete for pulling out and making a left hand turn.

I live at the cross street of Spring Mill and Tracey Road. Cars fly by the street. It is unsafe for my kids to stand at the corner to wait for the bus in the morning. There have been numerous accidents because of people speeding down Spring Mill Road. The addition of stop signs will help this problem!

I fully agree. Cars constantly I IGNORE the numerous stop signs and fly down at 45 to 50 Mph in a 25 mph zone

Have complained the Whitemarsh Police 3 or 4 times . .

Please install these stop signs asap

Please help keep our kids safe. Put up more stop signs.
