The ministry finally backed down and agreed to use local venting data for Elkford instead of that garbage Cranbrook reading. They tried to ignore us for too long but they could not hide from the pressure we put on them. Keep your eyes open because I am still watching them …
Who’s fed up with the slash Burning and smoke in Elkford?
Please sign petition to have the venting index taken in Elkford not Cranbrook.
Our Govt. and the forestry companies refuse to change the policies.
The forestry companies are still hiding behind outdated policies while we choke on their smoke. I am sick of them using Cranbrook data to justify poisoning the air in our own backyards.

The smoke is terrible day & night. Comes in our bedroom window all night and I have to take allergy medication to avoid the symptoms If this wood can be chipped, and provide less CO2 emissions, we need to give it serious consideration

I just recently gave birth to a preemie baby. While we are still in the hospital, we will be coming home soon. I do not want to bring my child home to this! She already has breathing and oxygen issues as is. I cannot believe that they haven’t readdressed this issue sooner. Clearly having the index from cranbrook is not working efficiently!!

It is so beyond the time for the Ministry of Forests to recognize that using the Cranbrook 'index' is just not appropriate for weather conditions (present and forecast) in the Elk Valley.

Strongly agree with this ! Indexing should be done in the area directly affected, not from somewhere over 100km away that does not have to live with the outrageous smoke !

Each year we have to deal with this, and for family members with asthma it is a NIGHTMARE! Please use air quality indexes in the city or town where the burning is happening. Cranbrook is 2 hours away and the prevailing winds come from the SOUTH in this neck of the woods!

Although I have no respiratory issues, the air quality is horrible and I can't imagine how it affects those who do. The smell is also disgusting, like burning garbage as it smolders for weeks and months in some places after they burn down.
