Pour la légalisation de la slackline à Montréal / For Slackline Legalization in Montreal
*******************************************ENGLISH***************************************** As slackline is getting more popular, authorities are worried about security and are now starting to ban slacklining from the parks. Indeed, it is now illegal to practice slacklining in park Lafontaine and most parks on the Plateau Mont-Royal. Why? They say slacklines are dangerous and can damage the trees. Our goal is to show them that slacklining is actually a very safe activity and therefore an excellent physical and mental training for those who practice it and is quite pleasant for those who are watching. We believe that slacklining has an important role to play in the developpement of our culture. Forbiding it has no valuable advantage for our society. With it's numerous parks and open minded people, Montreal is on the way to becoming one of the world's greatest cities for slackliners. But for that to happen, we need the support of both the city and those who want to see slacklining grow. With your signatures, we believe we can prove that everyone enjoys slacklining and no one wants to see it disapear from our parks. Slackline needs to be legalized in Montreal. Therefore, it is essential that slackliners follow these fundamental guidelines: 1. Each tree used for slacklining should be adequately protected. 2. All lines should be visible to cyclists and pedestrians and should never cross any path. 3. Every line should be attended at all time. 4. Proper rigging technics and materials should be used. Slackline Montreal is fully commited to promoting these rules and making sure they are being applied by slackliners in order to keep slacklining a safe and enjoyable activity for everyone.

Two hundred and fifty people have signed this thing and I honestly keep refreshing the page just to make sure the number is actually real because I thought it would just stay at my friends and me. People are noticing the park situation and it feels like we might actually have a shot at changing these rules if we keep pushing forward and showing the city that we care about our trees and our sport.

If people are taking the precautions to make sure the trees are properly protected and they are practicing safely around those around them i believe slacklining should be allowed in local parks.

I love doing slackline and I was warned once in Park Mont-Royal, I didn't know the city had rules for this kind of activity... Tho slackline show be an exception amended and have guidelines for installation such as usage of towel, not blocking paths, bit enough trees... Things that I believe are already being done for the common well being in parks by slackliners :) And great fines for those who are jerks and don't care about public spaces ;) We need more people doing outdoor sports!
