Hello Orange County Neighbors,
Please join us in asking Orange County Government to limit the height of the Skyplex tower to 300 feet based on the distance of the attraction from its neighboring communities, and the overwhelming amount of light pollution it would impose on those who call Dr. Phillips home.
Skyplex recently petitioned Orange County to rezone 11.46 acres from C-2 with a 50-foot height restriction to a PD with a development program that includes the construction of a 700-foot high tower structure with a roller coaster-type attraction. This tower would span 300 feet higher than the Orlando Eye. There is also word that this same developer plans on adding a zip line and big swing to the attraction at a later date.
Although the re-zoning application was denied due to concerns regarding height, lighting and traffic; it was stated that the Zoning Board would defer to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) for decisions on height and lighting. The BCC meets on November 3rd to review the I-Drive Strategic Vision Study which includes plans for the Skyplex project.
It is VERY important for each and every one of us to reach out to our elected officials and let them know our opinions regarding any iconic structure, not just one proposed 700 foot tower with roller coaster, proliferating in the skies of our community. They as our representatives need to really think about these questions: Are these iconic structures compatible with our community? Do Dr. Phillips residents have the right to dark skies? These are quality of life issues that must be addressed. Light pollution should not be something we have to learn to live with.

We are approaching the one hundred signature mark which serves as the threshold for our first formal meeting with the zoning board. Please contact two neighbors today to ensure we cross this milestone and solidify our standing before the commissioners review the I-Drive Strategic Vision Study.

Bigger not always better. I urge the county commission to do what is reasonable and in the best interest of the residents of Orlando! The eye was approved for a specific height and makes sense that this project be held to the same standards!
First consider those residents of invested their lives in the homes that are adjacent to this property. Second consider the desperate situation of the traffic in the area and how long it would take to create any relief at all including pedestrian overpasses
Too much noise already overflowing from the widening of I-4 and other venues on I-Drive into the neighborhoods.. owners have invested alot of money in Dr. Phillips and deserve some serenity... hard to get anymore.. noise carries across the lakes easily
Dr Phillips is one of Orlando's most desirable locales in which to live. Let's keep it that way and not turn it into a carnival! Restaurants and hotels are fine for I Drive, but it does not need to become a theme park destination of its own.
Please do not extend the height limit for this attraction. The Orlando Eye taught us our quickly our quant residential area can have reminders of I-Drive peaking above the tree line in our everyday life. I can only imagine what this would do.
SKYPLEX UPDATE: Everyone can breathe with a sigh of relief and celebrate, because Skyplex is now officially cancelled and is not happening at all and for good. The cancellation was confirmed back in October last year. So, this petition should now be closed.
This project would’ve been an eyesore to Orlando and feels like a Las Vegas style tower: Orlando is NOT Vegas and never will be.

I don't want to see that thing from my house. I try to watch every major meteor shower, and the added light pollution created by this would impede my ability to see them. Also, the added traffic would be a huge inconvenience to me and my family.
