UPDATE: ON MONDAY, AUGUST 10th, THE SKSD SCHOOL BOARD VOTED (4-1) TO START THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH REMOTE LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS FOR AT LEAST THE FIRST 9 WEEKS. FAMILIES CAN SELECT THE SK ONLINE OR SK FLEX. STUDENTS THAT CHOOSE SK FLEX WILL BE TRANSITIONED BACK TO THE CLASSROOM WHEN IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.
South Kitsap School District (SKSD) Families for Offering Choices needs your help in supporting the already approved plan to offer two options to our families as they prepare for returning to school in the Fall.
- SK Online Academy (fully remote)
- SK Flex Model (2 days in person / 3 days remote)
SKSD Families for Offering Choices is a group started by parents of students in the South Kitsap School District. The SKSD Board has scheduled a Special Meeting to reconsider the already approved plan on Monday, August 10th. It is our mission to ensure accountability to the parents in our community by offering choices for online and in person options for learning on September 8, 2020.
The SKSD Board of Directors have already approved this plan. They need to hold firm and follow the science and the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to work towards reopening schools in the Fall. If SKSD reverses their decision to offer choices, when will our children ever be able to return to school? Governor Inslee's education recommendations make it nearly impossible to even consider returning to in person learning for the entire school year.

- If you are a parent, family member, loved one, and/or caregiver for a student in the SKSD we urge you to let your voice be heard!
- If you are an educator in the SKSD we urge you to advocate for effectively educating our children and offering choices to parents!

I just logged on and saw the way everyone is piling in here and honestly my head is spinning because I barely expected a handful of people to notice this let alone this whole movement popping up overnight. It really feels like we are on to something now that so many of you are demanding the board actually listen to the families who have to deal with the real world consequences of these shaky decisions.

Our kids need school, not just for education but for social interaction and mental health. The effects of isolation and high screen times for education were devestating to my children in the spring. Please give us a choice and allow in person education.
My husband and I are full time, essential workers that cannot work from home. Our children are too young to stay home alone, and I don't want to have to give up my career.
Parents and students alike deserve a vote in their education. We understand the science. We understand the recommendations. We also understand our child’s ability or lack of ability to be successful in a distance learning environment.
Parents deserve a choice. Students deserve a choice. Teachers deserve a choice. My child NEEDS personal interaction to learn. We choose to follow guidelines and protocols and accept the consequences, BECAUSE we have the choice. Those who don’t choose the consequences deserve the choice to remain strictly online. CHOICE is powerful!
My child NEEDS in school instructions. The online is not working for her at all. The teachers were not available and honestly were unhelpful at the end of the school year online. My daughter has a learning disability and requires more one on one help. Please do not make it online only, the plan for options is the best for the students.
All kids should be in school. Teachers can protect themselves so can the kids

I believe the plan we have in place has something for everyone. I also believe this went through our school in Nov/Dec last year. We didn't close the schools then, & there's no reason they should be closed now. I am a SKSD bus driver.
