Physical Education is defined as "systematic instruction in sports, exercises, and hygiene given as part of a school or college program." In most schools, the majority of students must take this class yearly. In this class students learn about various sports and can experience playing them. For some people, this is their favorite class, a time to get away from schoolwork for an hour, while for others, it can be too tedious, too physically demanding, or just plain boring. In addition, gym class often wears students out, if the class is at the beginning of the day, resulting in inability to focus as much as possible in classes. This can especially be an issue with an exam coming up, or an assignment that calls for close concentration. What I'm hoping to gain from this petition is a change in school rules. If a student participates in a sport, whether on a school sports team, or unrelated to the school, and meets certain requirements, then the student should have the option to not participate in Physical Education. In this way, the student can still get the exercise needed as determined by the school, while not having to participate in sports that may distract the student from his/her studies. By signing this, you are helping many students have a happier, more enjoyable, and more relaxed school day. Thank you.
