Skateboarding has had a presence in Saint Lucia for quite a few years now. These days, especially, the sport is getting a lot of local attention. People are interested in skateboarding and an increasing number of persons, both young and old, are buying boards, learning tricks, making skate videos and exploring the skateboarding culture.

So far, we, the growing skateboarding community, have been able to use suitable flatground, such as empty parking lots, shopping mall sidewalks and smooth roads to practise our craft. For those of us who want to truly progress, however, flatground alone will not be enough to take our skills to the next level.

We want to be able to do things like representing our island in international competitions and regional competitions such as the "One Movement Invitational Skateboarding Contest" held annually in Barbados. If we are going to perform well, we need a place to hone our skills. If we want to give people in Saint Lucia the opportunity to practise skateboarding as , not just a hobby, but as a sport, we NEED to have a skatepark on the island.

Having a skatepark available serves as more than just a training ground for experienced skaters. It also serves as a safe area where new skaters can go to practise in a controlled environment away from traffic and pedestrians. It would also help skaters avoid getting injured by foreign objects such as gravel and broken glass that can be found out in the street.

A skatepark can also open doors in the business world. There are many persons on the island currently who would like to adopt skateboarding as a pastime, but complain of the lack of a proper facility and are dissuaded from entering the sport. Having a skatepark would be an incentive for more people to join the community and an opportunity for skate shops to open up to meet the inevitable growth in demand that a skatepark would encourage.

We at Unveil Skateboarding, the local crew, ask that you support us in our initiative to get a public skatepark built on the island. We would be grateful for any form of support and we thank you , in advance, for helping us to achieve this dream!

I've been skateboarding for about 8 years now and a skatepark would be extremely helpful in improving my skills and is a much safer environment than street skating which me and most of the other skaters do

The skating population is growing at such a rapid paste and this would be safer rather than skating around town also with SMALL membership fees the park will maintain itself because true skaters show a passion and they will take care of this compound

Skateboarding saved my life! Kept me out of trouble, kept me fit and gave me many friends and wonderful memories I'll cherish for life. A skateboard park in St. Lucia would be so beneficial for everyone. Make it happen! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I think this is for a long term reasons like keeping the joung kids active and more so for the passionate skateboarders to have a avenue to express themself, To fee Unified, to have fun to laugh together, to fall together get up and prevail over a skateboard trick.. Surely we will product more productive n active young saint lucians for all the right reasons.

Although I'm from the States, a Skatepark is a positive outlet & creates a hub for the local skateboarders to go. It will keep them off private property, and any tourists in the area who also happen to skateboard would probably be interested in checking it out. It will also stimulate the local economy, skateboarders appreciate a good drink/meal as well.

I endorse this project as it will allow young men to find a place to exert their energies and create an avenue for sports tourism as it may be the only one in the OECS and wider Caribbean.

Great idea as the youth needs more activities available. Something they can focus on to build their discipline and courage. Its not just a simple hobby its more than that.
