You don't mess with the R.R. They are required BY LAW to Blow their horn within so many feet of approaching a Crossing.

I went to school K-12 in Chatham and the train never bothered me while in school....that's total BULL. The PURPOSE of the Whistle is SAFETY ... How STUPID can you people be ? Also... The D.O.T. will NEVER go along with it as it is Mandatory within so many feet of approaching a crossing. How dooo you people come up with all these stupid ideas ? There was actually a woman from the city a couple years ago who had the audacity to go into Price Chopper with a petition to ask the store, which by the way is a Grocery Store CHAIN, to let City people shop during the week and Locals shop on weekends or vice versa. Do you people Really think that you can just come to a small town and try to TAKE OVER Everything ? ..... REALLY !!

This will not happen. It is too dangerous. I can't beleive you are petitioning this. First it was no mowing lawns on the weekend. Then it was no locals shopping on the weekends. Now THIS. I don't think so. Sorry bud.

Dear citidiots,
As a member of Columbia County and a graduate of Chatham high school, part of the experience was the trains. One time growing up, we went outside to watch the circus train go by. Some of my other memories was being late for school because of the 120 car train going by.
As a local person, I'm sick and tired of Citidiots moving here and trying to change things. The trains are part of the history, at one time 3 different train systems ran through the Village.
Before buying property, maybe you should do some research. Very simple if you don't like the trains, sell your property and move away.

Good luck with this petition.
Not only is it ignorant, it shows the mentality of the city people that move here.
Those tracks were there a lot longer than you've been alive and will be there long after your dead (provided you don't get hit by a train).
Be glad you weren't here when there was ALOT more trains running than there is now!!
How else are you going to get your precious goods to market? Oh, I know, lets put more tractor trailers on the road and see how you feel about them!!!

I have lived in Chatham my entire life...we are a train town, always have been a train town. If you don't like it Please leave. You are obviously not from around here originally or you'd know better. Shame on you for trying to ruin another lovely small town with your stupid stupid requests. If i find out where you work I'll make sure to spread the word that we have an outsider in the village and he is not welcome.

Umm.. this is the most idiotic petition I have ever seen. I'm fairly certain the trains have blow their horns when approaching a RR X. What would happen if a child gets hit by a train because he/she didnt hear it coming? Go back to the city if our country trains bother you so much,

I would hope that all crossings with booms and lights would be exempt from the requirement to blow their horn.

this sounds stupidly dangerous in a way. I get it must be annoying, but maybe just ask to cut it down not remove sound completely. I hope when some idiot gets hit cause they don't hear it coming you all feel just a bit guilty
