I joined he club 22 years ago and have watched John work tirelessly with generations of members ensuring that the club continued to thrive. having had an enforced break for a few years i was impressed with how the club was thriving due to a range of initiatives all desgned for the benfit of the club and its members and all introduced by John, How therefore can a situaton arise where the club management cannot recognize not only the cost but the value of someones dedication and commitment with the results there for everyone to be seen? surely there has to be a workable compromise and the tiniest bit of foresight on behalf of whoever is behind this decision?

The Club is prospering at a time when many similar institutions are struggling. This is down to the hard work of many people, paid employees and elected members, who give their time for free. As members, we are very lucky to have such a facility. It is therefore a great shame that John Mullins, one one of the hardest working of this group of people has found himself in a situation where he feels he has no option but to resign his position. Johns service, hard work and dedication has played a big part in the present success of the club. I would therefore ask everyone concerned to try to find a way to reconcile the present unfortunate situation before we lose a very valuable asset of the club.

I was a squash player for many years and am aware of the good work that John did to promote racquetball at the club. I felt sorry that the squash came second after this. I was sorry that John said he was pushed out but when I checked with the managers of the club they said this was not the case. He has been offered help to increase the coaching programmes and has been offered the position of head coach of racquetball but he has turned it down. I have heard his health is not too good so I wonder how he feels he can cope with coaching the top players and teams. It would be nice for Nick Matthews to be involved as a World Champion now.

John will be greatly missed by a lot of people in the club including myself .It is not right that his position has been made untenable and the club will not be the same without his huge commitment to racketball and squash.

It seems ridiculous that the club have made it so hard for John to do his job which he has done so well - our kids and myself owe a lot to him. Crazy!

John is the heart and soul of the squash and racketball community at the club. I think recent events are disheartening considering the extra time and effort he puts into organising extra events around the club that generate a lot of enjoyment by the members. John has created a tight knit almost family that transcends generations as friendships of all ages have formed due to his organisation of events like summer league. I have to also say that he has helped many of us develop several skills through allowing us to take the role of coaches and I feel this shouldn't be undervalued as the heart of the club is it's members and John has contributed significantly to many peoples experiences. You only have to come down on a Saturday or Sunday morning to see the effect he has had on those of us in the youth section. The oldest, who are entrusted with responsibilities and get the opportunity to teach and share their love for a sport with younger children, which in my eyes is really special. John is a truly remarkable man who has consistently contributed so much to the club and I know he will have the support of many as many of us have in a sense grown up in an environment he has created!

John will be very well missed by my son and myself. He coached myself and now my son and has inspired many to play at the Hallamshire. Such a friendly and welcoming gentleman.

Although I am no longer a member of the Hallamshire Tennis and Squash Club I know that John has done fantastic work for the club and is loved by so many of the members. It is really sad that he feels he has to leave now when he is still so busy coaching so many young players.

John has been a fantastic figurehead for The Hallamshire Squash & Racquetball section. We need to support John as without his hard work and commitment Hallamshire would not be what it is today!
