This is a campaign / petition for voting rights for Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora. We are being discriminated against and disenfranchised as Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora by the government of Sierra Leone. It's our belief that every Sierra Leonean citizen must have an equal right to vote, yet the harsh fact is, the diaspora Sierra Leoneans are kept from voting simply because we are in the diaspora. Voting rights and democracy are intertwined or goes hand in hand. Our concern is, what is the legitimacy of denying voting rights to diasporans? We want to participate in the political process and Sierra Leoneans should be made to reflect on the practical consequences of diasporans disenfranchisement, as well as on its implications for democratic governance. The electoral laws should be reform that contribute to an array of gratuitous disenfranchisement that serve no practical function other than to consolidate the power of the already powerful few. What is at stake is a core principle in the issue of diasporans or to the inherent contradiction between diasporans disenfranchisement and democracy.
