Mayor Mark Mathews and City of Keller Council Members:

Please consider this letter a formal request by the Flanigan Hills subdivision (“Flanigan Hill”) for the Mayor and City of Keller Council Members (“the City”) to apply for a grant from the Texas Safe Routes to Schools initiative on behalf of the subdivision of Flannigan Hill. It is our wish that the grant and City provide for the installation and completion of sidewalks on Whitley Rd. from Rapp Rd to Bear Creek Rd, and the installation and completion of sidewalks on Rapp Rd from Whitley Rd. to Willis Lane.

The Flanigan Hill neighborhood was established in Keller well over 10 years ago. In that time, the children of our subdivision have been isolated from surrounding neighborhoods, schools, and parks without the assistance of an adult driving them to their destination. Our children and families have never had the ability to ride their bikes to a soccer practice, to a friend’s home, or even walk to their neighborhood school. Although less than one mile away, students attending Willis Lane Elementary School and Bear Creek Intermediate cannot safely connect with the sidewalks on Willis Lane or Bear Creek. Sadly, even the very close Bear Creek Park and Old Town Keller are virtually inaccessible by Flannigan Hill residents. We are sure you agree it is time for that to change.

Over the last few years, the City has provided new and improved sidewalks in many areas around Keller. Most recently the construction of new sidewalks on Rapp crossing over to Shady Grove, and also to Rufe Snow, is one of many of the improvements that we find encouraging in our City. As such, we feel it is time that Flanigan Hill finally receive the sidewalks it desperately needs for our children to walk to school, bike to the park, and interact with their community.

We are proud to call the city of Keller “home”, and we know that as our leaders you have taken great pride to make Keller a thriving and desirable community to live in. We thank you for taking action on our behalf to make living in Flannigan Hill even better.

We thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Flanigan Hills
