Billy is a master of the fundamentals and I'm proud to call him a friend, coach, and mentor. He honors the history of the game with the legacy he's created, and the lives he has impacted with the game of lacrosse,

Bill has contributed to Northern California lacrosse for over 30 years -- as a player, as a coach, and as an administrator. He has contributed at all levels -- club, college, and high school. And he has been successful in all of these. No one better represents the spirit, the growth, and the comradery of lacrosse in Northern California than Bill. I whole heartedly endorse his induction into the Northern California Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Billy embodies the best all around ambassador to the sport of lacrosse as a player, coach and developer. His participation, support and love of the game over the past 30 plus years makes him an ideal candidate for the honor of being inducted into the NorCal Lacrosse Hall of Frame.

Bill is one of the most deserving individuals I know not only because of how good a player he was but becasue of what he has done for bay area lacrosse over the last 20 years coaching college and high school.

Bill was a boundless source of positive energy for lacrosse at large, as well as the team we played on together, Palo Alto Lacrosse. At the time, I was impressed with his simultaneous involvement in both our team and Santa Clara's club; and now I read his resume and marvel at his dedication and contributions. I left California long ago but the friend I knew in the late '80's has clearly served the lacrosse AND California communities. I'm honored to have the opportunity to sign this petition in support of his election to the NorCal Hall of Fame.

I have known Bill Kurz for over 25 years and in that time I have met few individuals who are as committed to community service. Whether it’s mentoring an Eagle Scout or coaching a player who is new to lacrosse Bill has a way that would bring out a player’s very best. It is impossible for me to count how many times I watched Bill teach a player and see the joy in the young man/woman’s eyes. The results of his efforts are both tangible, the number of clubs he founded, teams coached and other administrative duties, and intangible, his passion for the game shared with so many that has grown the sport to heights unforeseen decades ago. The history of Nor Cal lacrosse cannot be written without Bill Kurz, it is time he is recognized.

Billy is an exemplary coach that turned newcomers to the sport of lacrosse into successful players that continued their career beyond high school. He built the profile of the sport in Northern California (and beyond) through his work as a coach, volunteer, and leader.

It is with my highest recommendation that I endorse the nomination of Bill Kurz to the NorCal Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In all of NorCal, Bill has one of the most extensive resume's of lacrosse accomplishments both on and off the field. For over thirty years, Bill has served at every level of lacrosse in NorCal. I personally worked with him, as President of NCJLA, during 2003 to 2005, where he served with distinction on the Board, was the recipient of four major league wide awards, and during which he founded the Crusaders youth club. I can confidently say that Bill played a major role in helping to make NorCal lacrosse the success that it is today. Speaking for a great many, and as a member myself of the Hall of Fame, Bill Kurz has earned my highest recommendation to be inducted. There is no one who deserves it more. Bill is a true lacrosse ambassador honoring the game in Northern California. 1. As a player for 15+ yrs at the men’s club level he was an all-star several times and one summer was the leading scorer at the Vail Tournament representing NorCal. 2. As an Administrator/Rep he always stepped up for positions from League Presidencies to Lining fields before games. 3. Most importantly as a Coach his (and with his wife’s support) influenced and his wisdom spread to over 600+ men/young men coached for all the 30+ Spring lacrosse seasons. Life’s lessons were/are most important in his coaching mixed in with the lacrosse. In Northern California I played with Bill for 10 years and coached along side him for 10+ years at the HS level. Bill is a true ‘Champion’ of lacrosse.

I too played with Billy back in the PA "Miller" days. He was our President and all-round leader in every sense. You'd be hard pressed to find a better ambassador of the game and someone who has selflessly did more for NorCal lacrosse than Bill Kurtz. He's the real deal and I 100% endorse his nomination for Norcal Hall of Fame!

Overdue

I played with Billy for the Palo Alto men's team back in the mid-80s. He ran the club and was instrumental in providing us with a place to play. In addition, he was always a positive role model and an ambassador of tr game. Years later I ran into Billy coaching youth lacrosse. He was a positive influence on his kids and you could see that he made the game fun for his kids. Throughout the years I've run into him at youth, high school and college events and he's always been involved. Always sharing of himself with the lacrosse community at large, and giving back to the game. Billy will be a great addition to the Hall of Fame.

Loyal, committed, honest, serious, teacher, love of lacrosse! Passionate! Never stops giving of himself! So deserving. A representative for Lacrosse always!

I have know Bill for well over 30 years, and I don't know anyone who has more passion for the game, whether playing, coaching or helping out in whatever capacity was required at the time. I was luck enough to meet Bill in 1986 as a player on the Palo Alto Lacrosse Club and served with him on the NCLA governing board. Bill's devotion to the growth of the sport should be enough to get him elected into the HOF, and when you throw in his outstanding credentials as a coach and a player he should be a shoo-in candidate - a first ballot hall of famer. When I moved to California in 1983 and was looking to play lacrosse, the first person I was directed to was Bill Kurz. He got me hooked into the Palo Alto lacrosse club as a player and we both were attackmen who connected to a great level. Bill was the feeder and director of the attack. I was the crease guy and Billy was always able to find me and deliver that feed, at times when I didn't even realize I was open. Billy was also coaching at Santa Clara University at the time and he brought me over and passed on the head coaching job to me. Together, we coached for 13 seasons with much success. After I took a sabbatical, Billy moved onto to coach HS and youth lacrosse. It would be an honor to have Bill Kurz enshrined in the Northern California Lacrosse Hall of Fame along with myself and all the other members.

We all love this game but Billy takes it to a new level. In the late 80's I was a wandering Aussie player new to USA, I found Billy at Santa Clara University and he welcomed me to Palo Alto Lacrosse Club. I found a great group of friends and players (we went on to win the NorCal Championship) I was in LAX Heaven. Thank you Billy, you are a gentleman who is dedicated to the sport and I believe to be most deserving of this award.

Bill Kurz is the founder of youth lacrosse in the South Bay. All the teams that started after the Tomahawks would launch with at least a few Tomahawks. That alone should get Bill into the NorCal Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In 1986, I called the Stanford Coach (Sam, I think) who gave me Bill Kurz's number. I called Bill and found the Palo Alto Lacrosse Club. Bill is a great man and always preferred the assist to the goal - that's just Bill. I do not know anyone that deserves this recognition more than Bill Kurz that is not already in the NorCal HOF. - Mark Brine

My son and many of his friends began playing lacrosse in the 3rd grade in large part due to Billy's tireless efforts at the Crusaders. Several of those guys are still playing in college today and all still love the game.

Billy meets and exceeds every criteria for this nomination and has earned a chance to join this elite group.
