Why should you support this petition?  Do you care enough to sign? Have you or do you know someone who is suffering?  Look at some of the latest statistics from the UK and remember the USA population is 17 times greater.

Home Office “There were over 1 million female victims of Domestic Abuse in UK during 2011”

NSPCC “1.5 million children experienced sexual abuse in UK – Findings as of April 2012”

NSPCC “Almost half (46%) of children and young people say they have been bullied at school at some point in their lives”

Join CABBY in making change happen.

We propose that Early Intervention of Child Safety Issues such as child abuse, other high risk factors that can contribute to child abuse and bullying is essential.

This petition sets out to ask the question; "Should a reporting tool be compulsory on all school computers to promote early intervention?

Currently we know that under confident and vulnerable children are prevented from reporting? [This includes children with Special Needs and those who are Illiterate]

Current reporting formats expect children to have uncontrolled access to the internet, write search criteria, scour and read the search results, read and complete a report template or email, then submit that template and wait for a call back from someone they don’t know or email/telephone someone that again they do not know. All this takes a great deal of time and may have to be done under very stressful conditions with abusers or bullies in the vicinity.

We can demonstrate that the technology for a more child friendly reporting tool does exist (CAABS Report) and that leading children’s charities have identified and stated the need for such a solution;

NSPCC “A Million secondary school children still suffer from abuse” - "Teachers must be supported to identify possible signs of abuse and neglect”.

Barnardo’s “Positive early intervention is the only way forward” - “We need to empower our children by education: powerful, contemporary materials delivered to children in the classroom”.

CEOP “We need to focus on that and break down the barriers that stop any child from coming forward”.

How can we address the issues that are affecting so many children the world over? We must first be able to get the children to come forward and tell us their problems.  This is not so easy to do.  Young children find it difficult to articulate there experience. Children will need reassurance that it is right to protect themselves and others.

Schools have the IT and welfare infrastructure needed to support the reporting child and statistically the school environment is the safest place for a child to feel comfortable to report.

Will you be part of this innovative approach? We need your signatures so we can demonstrate to the Governments that real change is required and that there is a solution.  Early Identification and Intervention coupled with education is needed to make a real impact on reducing the long term effects of these issues.

Please sign this petition today so that a real solution to Early Identification and Intervention of child abuse and bullying can be adopted.

Please do not presume others will sign.

Thank you

This really should have been done years ago. Computers at school are meant to be safe places for kids not gateways to more trouble.

My niece was scared to tell anyone what was going on at home. This would have helped her so much. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

Long overdue. Kid safety is the most important thing. Wish we had this when I was in school.

About time! So many kids suffer in silence because they dont know how to reach out. Put the tools on the machines and give them a chance to speak up.

Schools need to stop ignoring this stuff. Fix the computers and protect these kids.
