Should Egg Donors be declined because they have a child born with Cleft?
I have previously donated my eggs to a Fertility Clinic and was considered an healthy candidate. I was then accepted to carry out a second donation but fell pregnant with my own child. My partner was born with a Unilateral Cleft Lip & Palate and so my son was born in July 2014 with a Bilateral Cleft Lip & Palate. I am now categorised has an unsuitable donor. It this right or wrong? A. The cleft comes from my partner B. I never actually officially told the clinic I had a baby with cleft lip I sent them personal correspondence to show off my baby which they have used to apparently update my medical file and use as information to determine their decision C. Cleft Lip & Palate is not a life threatening nor terrible condition and can be corrected - would an adoption agency decline a child based on that they were born with a cleft? Do you think this is discrimination and should be changed?
