The people and families listed at the end of this letter,
all members in good standing of the Highland Lakes CC and Ca, have been engaged in an email chain regarding the topic of
short term rentals. Each, for various reasons, has concerns about short
term rentals and how they are currently and will continue to negatively
impact their peaceful enjoyment of their properties.
“We
are respectfully requesting that the board of the Highland Lakes CC and CA, as soon as is feasibly possible, enact an
immediate and full moratorium on any additional properties being registered as short term rentals.”
We
understand that properties that are currently fully registered with the
township of Vernon and currently fully registered with Highland Lakes CC and CA would not fall under the moratorium on new STR. We are
asking for a moratorium to enable everyone in the community, those for
and against short term rentals, to express their opinions in open and
transparent forums to assist the board in making a decision regarding
this subject. It is obvious by now, based on phone calls, emails,
conversations and the results of the survey, that this subject has has
and will continue to generate strong feelings by members.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many neighbors have reached out to support this cause. It shows how much we all value the quiet character of our community. This momentum belongs to every one of you who decided to step up and speak for your street.

A moratorium would help to give us all breathing room and for the Board to discuss how this issue can be managed. I am vehemently opposed to investors buying up multiple properties for the purpose of listing them as STR's which is the case within half mile of my home.
Businesses are not allowed in Highland Lakes. The only people who benefit are the people who own the properties. I am watching 6 people on the ice at a STR rental Property as I sign this petition
While I don't know if a moratorium is legally feasible in the immediate term. I am concerned about the impact of STRs and I do believe current rules, fees, penalties and enforcement is inadequate to protect the Highland Lakes experience owners & their families have enjoyed for decades.
If we knew a “Private Community” allowed short term rentals we would have never moved here. As a homeowner, I do not appreciate having different neighbors sometimes on a DAILY BASIS. Flat out: THEY DO NOT BELONG HERE
We need to define what is meant by the words "short term". I have no objection to members renting their properties for weeks or months if they register with the club office and pay the necessary fees. I object to corporations buying properties exclusively for the purpose of renting on a "short term" basis.
Let's keep this a private, family community :)
I’m very concerned about STR’s. We bought here for a sense of peace, tranquility and community. I don’t want to see HL turn into a party lake community.

Control of STR should be a priority of the Board of Trustees since weekend rentals have a negative impact on the quality of life in our community. No one wants to live next to or around "The Party House". We believe that rentals of a minimum of one week would be more conducive to bringing calmer tenants and creating a more relaxed community.
