Shops @ The Dunes

I shop here every week or so and have been surprised by the lack of restaurants/fast food. Once the theater opens, it will be especially nice to have a place to grab a bite before a movie or discuss a movie with friends afterward. I'd love to see an In-N-Out, Quiznos, and/or Jamba Juice and especially a sit-down restaurant. I'd also love a Trader Joe's.

I work at the Best Buy in the Dunes shopping. It sucks that I have to get in my car and drive into Marina or Seaside to get a bite to eat especially when I only get a 45 minute lunch. Marina doesn't realize the extra income they would be receiving from these shops and the increased traffic coming into the theater area. City of Marina MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS

Although I now live in south Salinas, I was a Marina resident for many years, a CSUMB graduate, and my children have participated in Marina youth sports and currently belong to the Boy Scout troop there. We have long and strong ties to this city. I will often shop the stores at the Dunes rather than driving across Salinas to their counterparts here. This development appears to be well thought and it is needed for Marina and the university. It would be wonderful if it were to also include a Trader Joes (or Fresh and Easy) and I would spend even more time and money there as it would be much more convenient than going all the way to Monterey for that.

Would like to see a Whole Foods or Trader Joes added to the plan.

The Marina Youth Soccer 2015 Fall Season started last weekend, and many of our families have more than one player registered in the league. All of our games are played at the CSUMB Soccer Complex just down the street, and some of our families have a 1-3hr wait between their children's games. MYSA operates a snack bar on the premises during the game day, mainly hot dogs and hamburgers, so some folks have asked where the closest "restaurant" is to the campus. We point them to Highway 1 towards Marina and Seaside, rather than DUE NORTH ON 2ND AVE to The Dunes Shopping Center -- because there aren't any restaurants there! Other developments coming to the Dunes region: *Century Cinema Theater has its ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 8th... there won't be any "dinner & a movie" dates @The Dunes, just the "movie" part! * The Veterans Administration Clinic, the first Active Duty-Retiree clinic of its kind in the NATION (Thank you, Congressman Sam Farr for fighting to bring this to MARINA), will open its doors soon, and there aren't any restaurants to patronize while waiting for test results! * The SpringHill Inn & Suites by Marriott hotel provides a free breakfast to its guests -- that will have to tide them over until they can drive somewhere else to eat! These "fast casual" vendors will, pun intended, "feed" an immediate need for the shopping center as it exists now: for the employees, for the patrons, for guests and visitors, the majority of which arrive to the shopping center BY CAR. The large area east of the Theater will provide the opportunity to fine-tune a plan to place "sit & dine" vendors with walkable/bikeable promenades between them. This development has been in the works for several years, and satisfies an immediacy that needs to be addressed. MOVE FORWARD.

As a former student of CSUMB, I personally understand the strong need for this development. Since the development is in such close proximity to the campus, students will no longer have to travel by car into Monterey for common services and dining. With walking, biking and long boarding, as popular motives of transportation for students, this development meets the Marina criteria for a pedestrian-friendly community. I'm a strong supporter of this development for the overall future economic growth for the City of Marina.

The food development looks very biker and pedestrian friendly to me (a lot of sidewalks and bike parking). The fact is, with the Veterans Clinic (opening soon), Hotel (opening soon) across the street, Theater, and destination type stores like REI, Target and Best Buy. I would say 90-95% of the people visiting the complex are arriving in cars, or will be arriving in cars. We need food and a couple of drive-thru's to cater to the 1000's of visitors arriving daily by car to the shopping complex. I live Marina and work at the Dunes. This is a much needed development! This city needs to consider the current state of the development and the needs of the citizen of MONTEREY COUNTY, not the plan from 10 years ago. Let's get this done!

I live in Marina and shop at The Dunes. It's a bike ride for me. I am looking forward to the inclusion of restaurants at The Dunes but I don't have enough good information on this plan. I would hope that anyone would take that into consideration before signing this petition. I'd to learn what the overall impact of this development will be and whether it will be bike-friendly and pedestrian-friendly. I'd like to see Marina continue to develop into a community of planned progress and not see this area turn into a car-park like the Gilroy outlet malls. At this time, I cannot support your petition but I will carefully evaluate it at the next city council meeting.

It would be nice to see this area developed, and I can't think of a better way than with some food establishments. This area is in need of places to eat that are nearby.

Upon touring the college and investigating the new local housing I noticed that there is little to no place to eat near either. The Dunes area of Marina is developing nicely and it looks like this new proposed center would fill a much needed void in the area. The food choices look amazing and we are hoping to see the new center up and running soon. Lastly, it is good to see that there will be car charging stations available as well.
