Shevington Parish Council Referendum
This petition is to call on Wigan Council to hold a governance review for the people of Shevington on whether they continue with their Parish Council or discontinue it.
Why is this? The residents pay more tax in Shevington than the rest of Wigan and this is because Labour run their Parish Council and insist that you pay twice for some services. Many residents both Labour and non Labour Supporters, believe that they should pay the same amount as tax as all other residents in Wigan.
A number of years ago enough residents signed a petition to call for a referendum but Labour refused residents to have a say. After that time there is not a process whereby the public can trigger a Governance review for 2 years. Because there has been a longer period lapsed, the residents of Shevington can now ask for another one.
Since the last time the number of shevington independents cllrs has grown and there are 9 Parish Cllrs - 5 labour and 4 Shevington independent. The Shevington Independents lost the 5th controlling seat by just 102 votes. Had they got the 5th seat then this petition would not be required as they would have triggered a referendum. This demonstrates that residents want their vote and since the last election more and more have said they want it. Now the time is right to ask for one. and to give Shevington Residents their say. Why? Because more and more residents are asking for one.
Once you have signed the petition please add your postcode so we can evidence that you live in Shevington, Appley Bridge, Crooke or Shevington Moor.
