This decision should have been left to vote on by the community. Pretty shortsighted of the four board members to dismiss the economic impact their virtue signal will have on the residents.

I do understand the reason there are people who are offended by the reminders of the Civil War era and slavery, but I don't agree that all of those reminders should simply be erased. Who decides that Stonewall Jackson was a racist? Who decides that any of the historical figures from that era were in favor of racism and slavery, simply because they served for the Confederacy in the Civil War?? I mean, we have soldiers today who have signed up to defend their country should they be called to do so in a war. That doesn't mean that they agree with all the reasons behind the war. It doesn't mean that, should it be discovered that the US had less than honorable reasons for engaging in that war (yes, it happens), those soldiers are horrible people whose acts of heroism are worthless and should be erased from history. The soldiers in the Confederacy weren't all slave owners, and, even those who may have been, weren't all in favor of the idea. Those were the times they lived in, and the South was their home. They fought to defend their homes, not necessarily to defend slavery - just as today's soldiers have sworn to defend the United States under any and all circumstances. Hundreds of years later, it is impossible for us to know what was truly in the hearts and minds of these men and where their moral standards fell. Sure, there is proof that some were cruel, insensitive slave owners who fought to save their right to own people as property, but NOT ALL OF THEM. I think this goes far beyond what anyone enraged over the George Floyd killing had in mind - at least it does for me. This is simply a factor of modern day people who enjoy being "offended" and "outraged" just for the sake of arguing. This helps no one, and it changes nothing that led to George Floyd's death, police brutality, or systemic racism. I don't see how we will ever be able to name a building, a street, a stadium, a sports team, or anything else after something/someone that can't be twisted to of

I personally am fine with the names of SJHS and Ashby Lee. Since the names are going to be changed though, the citizens of the county should be able to pick the name.

I moved from northern VA to get away from the liberal lunatics and the left wing politicians only to see that they are here in the valley too. A handful of spineless "leaders" should not make this decision. Let democracy prevail, let the people vote on it! Keep the school names and preserve history!

This must STOP! Since when does this country cater to only some of its citizens? We are allowing a bunch of idiot killing thugs to tell us how this country will be run. At a cost no doubt to our tax paying dollars! I fear all this going against each other is going to e the demise of ALL OF OUR FREEDOMS! TOGETHER WE STAND OR DEVIDED WE SHALL FALL. The God Lord is watching and I am sure he is not liking this. I pray for all of us

I believe the Name change is uncalled for the school names were not done in support of the civil war they were because the the person and Stonewall Jackson didnt support owning slaves he helped the slaves he was only following orders and nothing I feel the money that will be used to change the name could go for much better use like things that are needed to better educate the students
