The Sheldon school board has decided to cut the
choral/music program at Sheldon Elementary starting in the fall of 2011. They have decided to keep Mrs. Reeves (the
current choral teacher) employed as a substitute teacher. She would keep her current hours, salary and
benefits. This means the only music that
would be offered to any of our children would be band for the older
children. The younger children would not get any music at school.
We, the undersigned, residents/taxpayers/parents
of Sheldon, Vermont are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now to have
the Choral/Music program reinstated at Sheldon Elementary School, without
interruption for the fall of 2011. Since Mrs. Reeves will not be retiring
and will keep her hours at the school acting as a substitute teacher, making
the same pay and receiving the same benefits as she would while teaching our
children music, she should remain in the position of choral/music
teacher. This is the best benefit to our children. To do otherwise
would be a disservice to our children and the community.
BRING BACK THE MUSIC!! these kids deserve better than this.

my daughter used to come home so happy after band practice. cutting this program is just wrong. kids need music in their lives not just standardized tests.
