A PETITION TO THE MEMBERS OF THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY COUNCIL

I live in Montgomery County and I am writing to urge you to vote quickly in FAVOR of County Executive Ike Leggett’s recommendation to abandon one block of Lincoln Street so that the hospital’s campus enhancement project can move forward.

The abandonment of Lincoln Street will allow the hospital to separate the main vehicular entrance from the neighborhood and will improve both pedestrian and vehicular safety. In addition, there are numerous alternate routes for vehicles if Lincoln Street is abandoned, such as Southwick, McKinley, and Greentree streets.  Lincoln is not the sole means of access in and out of the Huntington Terrace neighborhood.

The proposed addition has a public purpose to provide modern health care with state of the art equipment to the residents of the neighborhood and the community at large by the construction of operating rooms that will be properly sized, configured and have functional space required for the hospital to deliver quality medical services to the community in compliance with current health-care standards.  The greater public benefit that will result from the hospital being able to provide modern operating rooms for patients outweighs the minor inconvenience perceived by a few.

Thank you for considering this important request.

This petition will be sent to the members of the Montgomery County Council.
