How can we all, as members of the SHA community, honor an individual who has dedicated so much of herself to empowering young women to be the best they can be, both on court and off? How do we pay tribute to one who has encouraged multitudes of young women to be champions of their efforts, whether in the key, the classroom, or in life? Who has compelled so many to carry forth with the lessons learned from their journey? Who has cemented a legacy that has roots in the very foundation of the space we hope will carry her name?

Let us all band together and show our solidarity with our SHA sisters. Sign your name to declare your support in the effort to name the new gymnasium at Sacred Heart Academy after Sr. Maria Pares for her decades of service to the SHA community. Let us use this opportunity to honor her legacy so our lasting impression of Sr. Maria will be in how she succeeded and not how she was forced to exit.

Sister Maria is one of the most positively influential women in my life. I still share stories about her with friends, fily, and students. I feel blessed for being one of her students and athletes. Thank you, Sister, for more than you know. Hugs and love to you.

In addition to Sister Maria's many athletic and leadership accomplishments, give she was the "face" of the campaign to fund and build the new gym, there is no question of whether or not it should be name after her.

The first time I visited Sacred Heart for an open house Sister Maria was out back pacing out where a new gym could go. It seems fitting to honour her in this way.

Although I played softball for rival Mount St. Mary, one of the highest compliments I ever got (relayed to me by my cousin, Molly Killeen Hopkins) was that, when I got up to bat, Sr. Maria said, "Watch out for this one; she can hit!" Happy to support this effort!

Let's take a disappointing situation and turn it into something positive... Let's celebrate Sr Maria's contribution to SHA. I went to Sacred Heart to play for Sr Maria. She worked tirelessly to get the gym built. Let's make sure we can honor her in some way in the new gymnasium.
