I’m very sad and angry about the treatment of school teachers at the hands of the school board and others.

Nearly every year our kids are impacted by staffing issues: our 12th grader at Mission had no english teacher for the entire first grading period, has had three counselors in four years, and was missing a physics teacher in Sophomore year. Administrative salaries appear to be way out of hand, and increasing out of step with teachers when the opposite should be true.

Teacher play an IMPORTANT role in the lives of our children. We are fortunate that even though the teachers are going through this they still come to work and inspire our kids to learn.

When the administration gave themselves a 15% raise—at their much higher salaries—they showed their priorities are not to classroom teachers and SFUSD students, who have been struggling, especially since the pandemic, with a lack of teachers and the need to recover lost learning. I am disgusted with the dysfunction of this administration and worried on behalf of all SFUSD students and their families, including my own son who has been without teachers for weeks and months at a time during most of his high school years including waiting six weeks for an AP English teacher during his senior year.

It’s been years now, feeling shame as I send my kids to school where teachers are beat down by low funding and shaming by school - reopeners, pandemic deniers, school privatizers and people like Garry Tan who have no kids in SFUSD. Enough. Pay our teachers 100k + and staff our schools, reduce 555, stop using Meredith Dodson’s Sister company to use non-union labor.

Our school is amazing and so is our teachers. The district has not helped that happen and in fact threatens what is working with their incompetence. Pay our teachers what they deserve and shrink the bloated administration of SFUSD.

Our children are worth it! We can’t afford to lose any more teachers or classified staff, and we need to continue to attract and keep the best!
