Green Beret Charles Martland is a hero who defended a child who was raped and who defended the child's mother who was beaten by the rapist. He should be commended and given a medal rather than kicked out of the military! Shame on our military!!

Drop charges against this patriot. The political correctness of the present administration is bringing this country to its knees. Shameful display of moral and ethical integrity. I am embarrassed for Americans and afraid for its children. Do the right thing here.

Not only should his discharge be cancelled but the State Department and Pentagon must step up to prevent these abuses. Screw the Afghanistani corrupt government if they insist on a hands off American policy. They have to accept humanity standards if they want our presence.

Everyone who reads this should send a letter or e-mail to their Congressman and US Senator. Here is a sample, you can cut and paste: BLUF - I request that Congressman (Crenshaw), and Senators (Nelson) and (Rubio) support the efforts of Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-TX, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-CA and write Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and Army Secretary John McHugh on my behalf in an attempt to save SFC Charles Martland's military career. Background - SFC Martland and his then-detachment commander CPT Quinn attacked an Afghan local police commander in Kunduz province in 2011. The reason they attacked the Afghan police commander had committed forcible sodomy on an Afghan child, then beat up the child's Mom, and then was laughing when approached about it. SFC Martland, a Bronze Star recipient, wants to remain in the Army. He was flagged for involuntary separation through the Army's qualitative management program because of his role in the assault. The Army is misusing the QMP program intended to cut back on over strength occupation specialties as part of RIF. SFC Martland is a highly decorated, well trained "18 series" Special Forces Qualified soldier. His performance evaluation are excellent and 18 series are in very high demand. The motto of the First Special Forces Regiment (Green Berets) is to "Liberate the Oppressed"! I can't think of a more oppressive situation than a juvenile boy being beaten and sodomized by Afghan Police Chief; then beat up the boy's Mom to intimidate her to keep her mouth shut. Yes - SFC Martland and his Detachment Commander did not deal with the situation the "politically correct" way. They beat the crap out of that pedophile sadistic criminal. They were vigilantes and made a mistake. We ask that out entire (Florida) Senate and Congressional Delegation come out strongly to keep SFC Martland in the service with a personnel file letter of reprimand for his actions, which constituted an assault, but that should be where it ends!

I am still in shock that this could even happen to an American, for standing up to something so evil, especially a serviceman. Our duty is to protect our fellow man and even more so our own countrymen. God bless him for what he did to stop what was happening to that young boy.

Punishing a soldier for holding up UN Human Rights for children is just plain wrong on so many levels. Our country needs MORE soldiers that are less worried about being politically correct, and more concerned with protecting a child.

What sort of message is our Army trying to send? Apparently that the U.S. supports Afghans committing disgusting acts that are illegal in every country in the world.

I applaud the Green Beret for his actions. Had I been in his shoes I don't believe I would have stopped at a "few shoves and kicks." For this I believe he is a better man than me.

What this soldier did was the right thing! The ones in power for doing the right thing will be held accountable. Get a pair and don't wimp or cave in to this present administration.

Please do not force the sergeant and and his captain commanding officer from the service for simply protecting innocent children and a woman. They would be heroes in their own country for their actions. Isn't that why we have a presence in the Middle East: To teach these the civility of decent living?
